           LEANNE CLANCEY

Leanne is a qualified hatha yoga teacher and a member of Yoga Australia (formerly YTAA), the peak professional association for yoga teachers in Australia.

Having taught yoga in Melbourne since 2004 Leanne's experience includes work with a wide range of yoga fans from corporate groups to seniors, pre- and post-natal Mums, teens, private clients and Melbourne's homeless.

She takes great pleasure in sharing the joys of yoga with those looking to create some balance and meaning in their daily lives and is privileged to be able to witness the beautiful changes that occur when people come to slow down and open their heart through yoga and mindfulness.

First finding yoga as a teenager, Leanne was instantly impressed by its calming and balancing effects and after several years of regular practice in the Iyengar tradition, she later spent time at the Sivananda Ashram in Kerala, South India where she forged a strong and devoted connection to her practice and to her spiritual path.

In 2005 she graduated from the Adv. Dip. Health (Yoga) teacher training at the Australian Institute of Yoga Therapy in Melbourne and in the following year completed further training with renowned US restorative yoga authority, Judith Lasater.

Leanne continues to learn today from inspiring teachers through regular workshops and retreats and a beloved weekly practice with teachers at the very gorgeous Agama Yoga School in Middle Park.

It's also handy to note that Leanne is Red Cross first aid trained, a qualified pre-natal yoga teacher and an experienced group facilitator with a background in vocational education and training.

APPROACH

Leanne's teaching approach is best described as a flowing vinyasa style, which is inspired by her training at the AIYT. Subsequent studies in Buddhist mindfulness meditation also inform her teaching style.

People are drawn back to Leanne's classes by her warm, natural style and grounded nature.  Her classes are fun, down to earth and free from esoteric mumbo-jumbo.

Leanne also comes from a long line of wise-cracking, Irish-blooded humourists and sees no reason why yoga and a decent giggle shouldn't come together on the mat.

On a sensible note, most classes are suitable for all ages and abilities, with variations offered so that students can always work comfortably.

WHAT PEOPLE SAY - GOOD STUFF!

"After procrastinating for some time, "will I, won't I?", I took the plunge and attended my first class with Leanne.  That was back in 2007 and I only miss a class when its unavoidable, in fact I have started to plan holidays around term break!  Leanne is an inspiration and this is reflected in the welcoming and inclusive atmosphere of her classes". WB

"I'm not much of a morning person, so the 7am start is perfect for me - not ridiculously early! - and once I've actually made the effort to get to yoga, it's all worth it. I feel so much better after just one hour, it really energises me for the whole day. I've done lots of different yoga classes over the years, and I really like Leanne's style - the class is a perfect combination of strong stretching but no impossible poses - and she has such a calm, lovely manner. I'm hooked!"EM

"Leanne took the time in each class to tailor yoga poses that were safe for my changing body whilst pregnant. Her beautifully relaxed teaching style kept me healthy and happy prior to and throughout my pregnancy". KH

"The change to my sense of well being is immeasurable - 2 hours a week without phones or interruptions and with Leanne's calm guidance, I have gained in the spirit as much as physically". MB

"After an absence of over 30 years from the practice, I was gently led back into the benefits of yoga by Leanne. Her excellent teaching ability and her caring, personable approach make you feel you can do it. Seeking to increase my flexibility and decrease my anxiety, I have found Leanne's classes the best solution, and an enjoyable interlude in a busy week". CS

"I find that regular yoga reduces my stress-levels and I really notice the difference if I miss a class. After a busy day at work sometimes a glass of wine in front of the telly is tempting but I always feel a million times better after a yoga class and much more relaxed". KS

"The staff who participated [in the yoga sessions] spoke highly – not only of the program but of Leanne as the instructor. The calm and pleasant manner in which Leanne delivered the sessions just made it that much more relaxing". JL (corporate client)
